Antique 19th C Cherub Boy Wood Maquette Sculpture French Italian School 39"

$ 7950.00
   up for consideration is a large maquette or wooden sculpture made as a model
for design. It is unsigned stands 39.5 inches in height with a width of 24 inches and depth of 14 inches more or less. You just don't see these around... The piece depicts a young boy walking with a torch in hand whereas the Cherub or Putto, ... seems to be following and reaching for the light from the boy...whether the boy has taken if from the Cherub or he is just wants it is not known. Maquettes are fairly rare and can command huge prices if they are from important artists and important works... as they are more or less the artists first personal interpretation of the idea and is rather a more personal thing as they artist touched it as opposed to bronzes that are casted by the hundreds ipso facto...after the fact...by a foundry or workers...likewise if it is a piece that was commissioned for public consumption at a park or University or Oil Tycoon etc...and it is important than a maquette, studies, sketches all related to the famous work can go through the roof. Like a mural no one can own the mural but if you can get your hands on the plans or a sketch by Diego Rivera regarding a famous mural it may bring more than an actual fine painting of a different subject by the same artist. Anyways enough lecturing... If you have any thoughts, questions or something to share please message me. Buyer pays shipping.
